In episode 24 the party are up against the reawakened monstrosity of Mr Ebony Wood, now turned into a multi-limbed Puppet Master.

As the Puppet Master tries to take down the adventurers, they spot his patchwork heart located within a skeletal ribcage and pierced with long, silver needles. Zagreus focuses his Eldritch Blast on the heart, whilst Caithe manages to rip the stitches from one side, significantly wounding the undead Mr Wood. Whilst the party keeps Mr Wood busy, Nadya and Mendel try their best to evacuate the remaining patrons from the carnival, urging them to safety.

The Puppet Master manages to crawl away using his many bony limbs but William and Ever take the opportunity to act quickly, with William slipping his dagger into the stitches. Ever Watchful swings her sword and with a mighty blow she cuts the remaining heart in half, spilling stuffing and ropes around her. Mr Ebony Wood’s body falls into a pile of bone and patchwork around her as the guards begin to approach.

The guards rush up cautiously and immediately begin to look for Nadya to arrest her. Zagreus and William angrily react to the treatment of Nadya and exchange strong words with soldiers of The Iron Forge. William is appeased by Decker, who reminds him it is not the time to draw attention to himself.

Whilst William and Zagreus are having words with the guards, Caithe is coming to terms with her changing powers. Unsure where her wings came from she becomes preoccupied with the notion that her tattoos and wings are somehow linked. Ever approaches and retrieves the deceased Mr Wood’s patchwork heart before piercing the heart one last time and using her divine powers to ensure Mr Ebony Wood stays dead.

As the Illume Saturnalia is closed down by The Iron Forge, Zagreus, William, Caithe, Decker and Ever make their way back to The Mirth Mill.

Back in The Mirth Mill news travels quickly. Mickaël announces to the tavern full of people that Zagreus, Ever, Decker, Caithe and William are the ‘Heroes of Khern!’ to a room full of whispers and gossip.

As the party grabs a table, they discuss Caithe’s unusual powers and physical features. Zagreus enlightens Caithe, revealing that her traits are typical of an Assimar. This raises questions for her about who her family were and why she was left behind. Feeling overwhelmed, she retreats to her bed. After she leaves Zagreus reveals to the remaining party that he is also Assimar and that he also has wings and a halo.

The group decide that the best thing would be to rest after their fight earlier and to comfort Caithe by bringing her fruit and meat. Before they leave, William produces the gloves that he took from Mr Wood’s pockets to show Decker. She feels these are magical but can’t reveal their qualities until the next day, so they decide to retire to their rooms.

Later Ever Watchful and Zagreus have a conversation about The Watcher; the deity’s symbol that Ever wears around her neck. She recalls her experience at the Platinum Shield Temple and questions Zagreus about why she was treated so poorly. Zagreus tells Ever about how The Watcher is viewed outside of Arcta; a fallen God – one who will seek eternal atonement for the sins of a hasty judgement and swift action.

Ever explains she has felt a connection to Zagreus since they have met in other circumstances before this time. She begins to draw conclusions between Zagreus’s sword and the same feeling she had when seeing a leyline open above a relic in Arcta. Ever and Zagreus continue to talk into the night and discuss the tragedy of Cyrius, the God who killed his lover, Mhattar, God of Mercy.

Meanwhile, William and Decker present a forlorn Caithe with a peach and turkey leg. In her existential crisis, Caithe becomes convinced that she came from an egg and that she is alone in the world. William and Decker convince her that she’s not alone and they promise to help her find where she is from.

As the evening comes to a close, Ever, William, Decker and Caithe fall into a deep sleep. Zagreus dreams of darkness. He awakens to the sword given to him from Professor Brightrock saying “Expergiscor Leonidas Aurora Spira”. He sees a quick flash of a city in a vision, one that he does not recognise. He hears the voice from his sword in his mind again – “I am lost and I know not where you are. I am wounded. I need aid”.

Suddenly, Zagreus awakens from a dream within a dream. Looking around he sees he is in the Mirth Mill room in Khern and Ever Watchful, sleeping soundly in the small bed next to his.
