“Bully Circle”; Part 1

Part one

Welcome to episode eighteen of The Dragon’s Vale; “Bully Circle”.

We begin part one of this episode, resuming the fight from episode seventeen. William had previously wandered further into the misty air of Khern to find himself taking a path around the back of the entrance to the mines, before engaging with the shady folks awaiting news from their young dwarvish contact.

William tried to pass himself off as the contact they were waiting for, but the Hobgoblin leader of this shady cohort was quick to spy an intruder. William was able to dodge a hit, but the trio were quick to engage in combat. William hears the leader call out to his party, “Go to the ivy house to prepare the load!”. As his friends slowly caught up to him, they were also drawn into the frey.

The fight escalated quickly, with the dexterous trio of Hobgoblins unleashing a barrage of piercing shots from their razor sharp darts. They were able to manoeuvre through the darkness at rapid speed, disappearing and reappearing within close quarters, as the party fought on. The tunnel stretched out into the darkness with the only light available in which to see their foes came from the immediate glow of William’s torch.

A long, twenty-five foot opening to a shaft on the right side of the tunnel was closed off with a sliding cage door, and further down the tunnel on the left side, a narrow loading platform sat in front of another smaller shaft opening, but this one being securely locked up. As a hooded Hobgoblin figure ascended towards Ever Watchful, she slammed her shield into him, damaging the metal cage door to the large shaft. With some quick thinking from William, he shouldered the enemy into the cage door, damaging it further and sending him down the shaft and into the darkness. They never heard him hit the ground.

As the last of the trio fell, she exclaimed in her last breath “Exalted are the wealthy, for we shall not go wanting in The Court of Chroma!”. After the fight was over, their fox friend Tanner Locke and Zagreus go looking for the young Dwarvish lad that the party had been chasing only a few moments before.

Once they find him, the pair learn that his name is Berrik and he was hired to appear at the Town Hall meeting about the future of the mines. He was to assume a disguise and don the clothing of a Tin Trove niner and provide a false account of how Mr.Ellvelon, the owner of The Tin Trove, forced them to continue work down in the mines, despite his campaigning to have the mines closed until the threat had disappeared. Zagreus decided to let him go, but offered a word of caution against turning up at the meeting the next day.

The party hastily made their way back to The Mirth Mill as they began to hear the sounds of a number of warning bells, telling them The Iron Forge guard may be aware of something untoward happening. Once back at The Mirth Mill, Tanner explains he must get back to his contact working for the Brass Quill, but advises Zagreus to look into the stories of Reiði (Ray-Thee) for answers to this mystery.
