“A Lesson in Stealth”; part Two

Welcome to the second part of episode 16, “A Lesson in Stealth”.

The party gathers with Tanner Locke on their stealth mission in Khern. After leaving The Mirth Mill, they head towards the north side around the 5th ring. On their journey the group are stopped by Caithe, William and Tanner as they witness a strange meeting between two figures on the ring below theirs. Illuminated by lamplight, the two figures appear to be in discussion with each other. The unknown figure facing them appears to be a young dwarvish man talking to a taller figure wearing a hooded cloak, facing away from the group.

On seeing this, they decide to creep further towards the figures. The taller figure then proceeds to shake the hand of the young dwarf, before punching him in the face and knocking him off balance. Upon taking this impact the young dwarf is aided by the hooded figure, as he is helped back onto his feet. The two shake hands once more, before the hooded figure disappears into a nearby alley. The strangeness of this interaction puts everyone on high alert.

In their keenness to get closer and try to identify the figures, Caithe realises her new armour is quite unwieldy and the young dwarf is suddenly alerted to the presence of the party. He looks nervously around before taking off in a northern direction. The party give chase to the fleeing man.

In a series of strange, and frankly unnatural occurrences for the city at night, each of the party experiences a bizarre set of obstacles in the chase. Decker and Zagreus attract the attention of street dogs that chase them as they run by. During the chase, Caithe manages to pick up a discarded bicycle and begins cycling at full speed. Unfortunately, she hits an oil slick and skids the bike, landing on the hard cobblestones. William tries to steal the bike from the toppled over Caithe, however isn’t quite able to catch up with Ever or Tanner.

As the suspect sprints into the night, even Tanner is having a difficult time keeping up and he trips, colliding with the ground with a loud thud. Only Ever Watchful, and her cat-like reflexes, are able to keep up with the nimble dwarvish lad. She pounces in an attempt to knock him down however his quick footwork made difficult work for Ever. Both Caithe and William catch up and in an all-guns-blazing move, William attempts to ride full pelt into the man. He makes a successful ditch of the bike straight into the legs of the young man. Momentarily, his speed is impeded as he nervously looks back at William.

Caithe on the other hand, has begun to notice the presence of others creeping in the darkness, preparing, and in this unfamiliar place she is becoming aware of what the group are about to run into.
