“A Lesson in Stealth”; part one
Part 1
Welcome to episode sixteen of The Dragon’s Vale.
Please bear with us as we trial a new format of episode, splitting the full sessions into two parts and hopefully making it easier for everyone to listen and follow our story.
Part one of “A Lesson in Stealth” follows the party as they arrive back at The Mirth Mill, armed with knowledge, an ancient and mysterious weapon and a bag of goodies from The Silver Raven Spa.
As Zagreus and Ever arrive back at The Mirth Mill, they find Decker has been out doing her own research into the mines. She explains that she met the local cartographer, Maeleu Steel, who imparted how vast the mines of Khern are; with entrances and exits throughout the Greenblade Dales. This led Decker to believe that the suspects of the break-ins could easily make their way around the area. As Zagreus and Ever discuss the evidence, Caithe and William join them.
Caithe presents a parcel to Zagreus, explaining that they were given this from Professor Heironomous Brightrock; Professor of Paelogizmology. Deliberately keeping the details vague, Caithe explains that she received a strange feeling and a strong essence of Zagreus when she touched the sword. She gives the sword to Zagreus and the party continue to discuss their plan for a midnight stake out.
As Zagreus touches the sword, he sees a vision flash into his mind. Within someone else’s body, Zagreus is standing on a smokey balcony, overlooking a burning city in the distance. He feels both a breeze from the black skies overhead and the sound of the flapping of large wings; the vision then ending abruptly. As midnight approaches he ascends to the rented rooms in The Mirth Mill to attempt to connect with the sword and create a pact weapon. His meditation connects him with the sword, although it is not what he expected. Something feels off to him.
William prepares the way for the party by scoping out the area around The Mirth Mill. The group set off to their midnight stake out, keeping an eye out for anything unusual. A feeling of being watched quickly ascends on the group and they spy someone watching them from the shadows. Deciding the best course of action was to pounce quickly, the group rush into the alley to be met by an Anisapien, more commonly known as a Fox-person.
He explains he is from Alderhelm, unofficially working for The Brass Quill and gathering information on robberies. He shows Zagreus the symbol that has been cropping up in the city to the east, matching what they found in the destroyed waypost of The Triscape Crossing. This Fox-person introduces themselves as Tanner Locke and asks whether the party will be joining him in a stealth mission to find the perpetrators.

In the episode…
Eventually the pale blue dusk gives way and evening sweeps across the sky. It covers Khern in a blanket of inky blue darkness. Both arcane and traditional lights begin to douse as the clocks’ inner workings tick and whirr, counting the hours to midnight.
The Mirth Mill empties and a quietness falls over the fifth ring as people head back to their dwellings and off the streets.
