“Little Bean Babies”
In episode 13, the party spend their first full day in Khern. Caithe and William take their leave from Decker and the party decide to explore Khern together, discovering some more strange rumours and even stranger people.
The first place they head is the smithy, known as the Iron Woman run by a green dragonborn called Ghyllathe Ghylden. It seemed that Ghyllathe had also felt the repercussions of the mine closure. She offered the party a few items that she had been working on, informing them that the lack of custom has meant that she was left with her more expensive armour. William and Ever convinced her to sell some items to them at a discounted rate.
Whilst conducting the transaction, Ghyllanthe divulged some information about two of Khern’s most important entrepreneurs. She explains to the group that Gavron Ironhide; owner of the huge mining corporation The Centurion Mining Company, and Theodore Elvellon; owner of the smaller Tin Trove Mining Works, were at odds with each other over the closure of the mines. She also offered the stories heard around town that Kobolds may not be the only creatures down in the mines. Ghyllathe went on to explain that other more worthless items had been left behind, but only valuable items were taken.
After a pleasant exchange with Ghyllanthe of Iron Woman, the party leave Khern proper and onto the surface to see the rolling hills of the Greenblade Dales again. Just past the checkpoint on the long road into Khern, they spot The Illume Saturnalia – the travelling carnival. The group sought Nadya Zinfi, the owner and ringmaster of the Illume Saturnalia, who quickly set the group to work with jobs.
It was during a number of these jobs that Zagreus and Caithe met a very strange member of The Illume Saturnalia; a Mr Ebony Wood. Seeing that he owned a wagon full of small, magical puppets that came to life to help in the preparations for the carnival left both Caithe and Zagreus thoroughly creeped out. Caithe managed to overcome this with the help of Sheila, the magical puppet horse but Zagreus did not get to walk away empty handed. Mr Wood bestowed a sinister gift to Zagreus, a puppet with golden ringlets and a sword and explained that the puppet called to him. Zagreus left very quickly.
In the meantime, William had crossed paths with Madame Tau who offered to read William’s fortune to which he accepted. With his fortune read, he and the others meet up after helping and Nadya presents them with a small amount of money and free carnival tickets for the opening night. After leaving The Illume Saturnalia the group head back into Khern and down to the sixth ring to speak to the owner of the Tin Trove, Theodore Elvellon. They gather information about a recent break in to the Tin Trove and offer to help Mr Elvellon find the thieves in the coming days.

In the episode…
Every Eazis evening, for as long as Caithe could remember, the Divinarch would leave her room high up in the far eastern tower of the Arcfell Institute of Academia and Functional Arcana. It would always begin before sunset. Caithe could hear the noises of scurrying to and fro in her room, glass clinking and knocking. She even took to opening her door a crack to peek out, just to see Divinarch Merrinwyn leaving in a hurry with a small satchel by her side complete with two bottles of the Contra Brewery’s finest.
With a spring in her step and girlish giggle, Glyss Merrinwyn heads down the tower for an evening of merriment and mishap.
