“The Mirth Mill”

In our twelfth episode, after the party awakened from a night of revelry they decided that breakfast was in order. Heading downstairs, they are met by the cheery bartender and proprietor of The Mirth Mill, Mickaël Elquen. Caithe, feeling rather sorry for herself, is given food and water to try and nurse the awful hangover she felt after a night of playing the popular Khernish drinking game ‘Confusical Statues’. As the party enjoy their first meal of the day, Mickaël brings them the daily news scroll, called The Brass Quill. William reads through and is surprised to see an article detailing the necromancy ritual that they had discovered the night before.

As the group have a friendly chat with the barman he reveals his ‘waypost’ was broken into and almost damaged, however the perpetrators were interrupted during this and had run off before they were able to be identified. He reveals to the party know that he’s still operating the waypost, even though the Iron Forge has requested he temporarily closes it. Upon hearing this detail, the group accompanies Mickaël to view his waypost down in the basement of The Mirth Mill. Unlike the Triscape Crossing, this waypost was haphazardly constructed. The teleportation circle had been scrawled upon wooden floorboards in a thick tar-like paint and looked as if it had been painted numerous times before.

Mickaël explains that the perpetrators were interrupted whilst trying to cause damage to The Mirth Mill and had escaped out of the open grate in the basement area. With this new information, the party decided to head out to explore the town and perhaps look for signs of trouble in the town. Decker decided to stay behind as they expressed an interest in talking to the carnival folk for more information.

The party decide to head out to some local shops, looking for items to buy, however quickly realising that some magical items are highly priced in a city that’s financially on hold. Turning to the local jobs board, the companions find interesting work requests available and also uncover an intriguing wanted poster.

In the episode…

“We were heavily pursued. Upon reflection I believe my contact in the Azure Guard was compromised, so evading the guard throughout the city was incredibly challenging. I parted ways with the tiefling I hired and headed back to Alderhelm. By this time word had spread from Castamanca that the Marsalia vault had been breached.

In this infamously lawless city, I had no choice but to hide, hunker down and wait for the talk to blow over. Should I have drawn attention to myself at this time I would have found myself a prisoner of the guard or worse, be it either here or back in Castamanca.”
